Little Girl Sick In Bed

Description: Pink, itchy localized welts found on the epidermis and dermis of the skin.

They are part of an allergic reaction. Reasearch has shown that 10-20% of the population

will experience hives in their life time. When you have an outbreak, the welts

can be as small as a quarter in diameter and can get up to six inches or even larger.

Some welts even join together. An outbreak can go away in a few days or a few weeks.

Unfortunately, sometimes as the welts fade, more develop. 1.

Causes of Disorder: When blood plasma leaks through gaps between the cells that line the small

vessels of the skin, hives occur. A chemical called Histamine is then released from the

cells in the skin which causes the swelling and the welts on the epidermis and dermis layers

of the skin. 1.

Can Hives Spread?: Hives is not contagious; it does not contain an infectious factor. external image hives-symptoms.jpg5.

History of Hives: The term part urtica comes from the meaning of the stinging nettle plant.

The plant has stinging hairs on its stems and leaves that release a histamine into your finger

or part of the body that is in contact with the plant. This causes that stinging feeling similar to when you have hives. 9.

How Hives Affects The Person: Hives can occure in the deep tissues of the hands, mouth, and eyes.

The areas of swelling are very scary but can disappear in 24 hours. The itchiness can cause people to

be very uncomfortable. Some people when they have hives react to hot and cold. This makes them want

to avoid sunlight, hot baths, showers and blushing. 6.

Treatments: If you have a more rare case of hives, you should take antihistamines such as Benadryl.

Benadryl can help you sleep because it is a drowsy medication that can help you avoid itchiness.

Zyrtec, Claritin, and Alegra are also effective medications. Antihistamines work by blocking

histamines; the chemical produced once you have an allergic reaction. The results of histamines

are itching and inflammation (including the welts). 9.

Prevention: When you see a doctor about hives they all will say that something

has caused the hives. The problem is that the doctors don't know what you are allergic to.

You need to obviously find out what you are allergic to avoid the outbreaks of urticaria happening

again. You can do this by taking urine tests, skin biospy, and blood tests. It doesn't hurt

to have your doctor check if you have any underlying skin diseases such as thyroid, liver, and skin

diseases. 10.
